District Family Camp

7th to 9th July 2017

This camp is open to the families of our current members to enable you to see what we do, speak with other leaders and parents and if appropriate see how you can help us continue to deliver Scouting to the young members within our District.  Due to venue size we can only allow a maximum of 2 adults per family – siblings are also welcome to attend.

This is the first such camp we have held and would love it if you could attend this event to ensure it is a success.

Venue

The camp is to be held on the farmers field behind the Powburn Centre.  The Centre will be open for families to have a look around but ideally we want everyone camping in the field behind.

Families/groups are to arrange own transport.  There will be a designated parking area at the top end of the field.

Catering

All of the catering is to be provided centrally by an outside company.  Any dietary requirements will be accommodated.

Tea, Coffee, Juice etc will be available throughout the weekend. A tuckshop will also be available.

Activities

All of the activities (including evening entertainment) are open to the adults and children (some minimum age restrictions may apply) attending the camp.  We are looking at providing a mix of traditional scouting, adventurous and, craft activities.  We are also looking at getting in outside companies to run activities (marines, blood bikes etc): Full details of all activities will be provided once booking numbers confirmed.

Climbing Wall                                              Archery                                    Pole Climb

Shelter Building                                          Tommahawks                           Inflatables

Camping

It is envisaged that families will camp with their groups.  Tentage should be kept to 1 per family.

There will be a large marquee for central use.

Toilets will be portaloos along with hand washing facilities.  Running water is provided.

First Aid is provided by the groups (First Response).  Any emergencies will be co-ordinated by the Camp Team.

Cost (all ages are at time of camp)

£40.00 per participant 6 years of age plus.  This covers camp fees, all activities and catering.

£20.00 per participant 5 years and under.  This covers camp fees, all activities and catering.

Under 1 year of age must be accounted for but are not charged.

If you are a young leader and wish to attend as a leader, you will be assisting with the running of bays and not participating.  If you wish to attend as a participant you must pay the participant fee.

If you (as a leader) are taking your own family and intend to participate with them, you must pay the participant charge.

DBS checks

All adults attending the camp must have a valid DBS (criminal check) at the time of the camp.  This is a Scout Association requirement.   Once an adult has booked their place, they will be contacted by a member of the District Team to book a suitable time to process their DBS (at their convenience).

Booking

Booking is via an online Portal which can be found here and will be open until 30 April 2017. Once a booking has been made, a 50% deposit must also be paid by 30 April 2017 with the final balance due by 31 May 2017.

Payments should be made initially to the group along with the attached form.  Health Forms etc will be distributed once the booking system closes.

As always, should you have any questions regarding the camp, please speak with a leader at your group who will be happy to assist.
