The Lord Lieutenant's Competition Presentation Evening

The following text and photos have been taken with kind permission from the Royal British Legion Northumbria County branch website.

The evening of Friday the 25th February saw the Royal British Legion, Northumbria gather in the sumptuous Hall of the Northumbria University Student's Union to honour and thank the youth organisations, schools and colleges of Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and Co Durham who helped their local legion Branches with their Poppy Appeal collections during November 2010. Altogether, the Youth Organisations concerned collected an amazing total of over £60,720.00p for the 2010 Poppy Appeal.

Forty-one Youth groups from the Sea Cadet Corps, Army Cadet Force, Air Training Corps, Scouts, Colleges and other Youth Organisations were present to receive certificates from the Lord Lieutenant of Tyne & Wear, Mr Nigel Sherlock CBE; the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland, Air Vice Marshal Sandy Hunter CBE DFC and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, Col. Arthur Charlton TD DL.

Swimming Gala

On the Sunday 13th March 2011, the District held this years swimming gala at Tynemouth pool.

Powburn Skills Weekend

Some of the Leaders in the District visited Powburn in April to have a try of some of the activities we can do at our outdoor activity centre.

Northumberland Park

On Saturday the 4th of June over 50 Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, leaders and parents from Tynemouth District helped tidy areas of Northumberland park.

The 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Tynemouth all helped Fiona Betts, the North Tyneside Council park warden and Sheila Bell, secretary of the New Friends of Northumberland Park remove some of the wild garlic from flower beds and prepare them and other beds for planting.

Beaver 25th Birthday Party

On Sunday the 3rd of July Beaver Scouts from all around the District took part in a birthday party to mark 25 years since the start of Beaver Scouting.

They played trip to Mars, pass the parcel, had their faces painted, did some races to complete a jigsaw and even found time to have some birthday cake.

Chief Scouts Award Presentation

On Saturday the 1st of October Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts from Tynemouth District went to the Discovery Museum to receive their Chief Scouts award certificates from the UK Chief Commissioner, Wayne Bulpitt.

The presentation was arranged by Northumberland County Scouts and saw over 200 young people from all around the county receive the top awards in their sections, as well as 4 who received the Queen's Scout award, the top award that a young person in Scouts can receive.

Congratulations to everyone that received an award.
