Royal British Legion County Presentation Night

On Friday the 8th of March a group representing Tynemouth District were presented a certificate by the Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, Mr Nigel Sherlock for the District's part in collection for the 2012 / 2013 poppy appeal.

Collections were made during the gang show's publicity events and we managed to raise over £2000 meaning we collected the most money out of the Tyne and Wear Youth Organisations.

The Lord Lieutenant, who happens to be a Northumberland Scouts Vice President, carried out a Scouting presentation at the same time when he awarded a Chief Scouts Gold badge to Mathew Dale.

The Scout 5-A-Side Competition

40 Tynemouth Scouts put down their woggles and picked up their shooting boots this weekend to take part in the District 5-a-side tournament. With help from Barclays Bank and North Tyneside Council, 6 teams fought it out with the 1st Tynemouth based at Christ Church emerging as champions ahead of the combined team from the 7th and 9th/11th Tynemouth who are based at North Shields Methodist Church.

The 18th Tynemouth, from the Baptist Memorial Church in Battle Hill, were awarded “Most Sporting Team” having secured several “Man of the Match” awards. And Daniel Collins from the 4th Tynemouth, based in Preston Village, was the “Player of the Tournament”.

Scott Gibson of Barclays Bank swapped his calculator for a referees whistle and said “As a company we do our best to make a difference in our local community. This kind of small funding can make a real difference on a day like this.” Barclays Community Funding covered the cost of trophies, equipment and refreshments. North Tyneside Council provided the pitches for the tournament played at The Parks Leisure Centre.

The photos below show some of those activities taking place. Thanks to Tony McAndrew for the photos of the 8th Cubs, more will be added as they are received from the various Groups.
