We are absolutely thrilled to announce that 13th Howdon Scout Group has received a generous grant from The RDC Foundation to fund brand-new, high-quality tents for our young people!
This new equipment will ensure our Scouts are fully prepared and well-equipped for all our upcoming outdoor camps, weekend expeditions and adventures.
Putting the new gear to the test
As soon as the tents arrived, our Scouts couldn’t wait to open them up and get hands-on experience setting them up during our indoor troop meeting.
Pitching tents inside the hall gave everyone a fantastic opportunity to practise essential camp craft skills in a dry, supportive environment:
- Teamwork and communication: working in small teams to assemble poles, thread sleeves and tension guy lines.
- Hands-on skills: learning the mechanics of dome and tunnel tent construction.
- Respecting our equipment: practising proper unpacking, inspection and repacking so our gear lasts for many adventures to come.
Seeing the hall transformed into a test campsite was brilliant, and the pride on the Scouts’ faces standing next to their completed tents said it all!

At 13th Howdon Scouts, we aim to give every young person the opportunity to build confidence, gain independence and experience the great outdoors. Having reliable, waterproof, modern tents means we can keep offering top-quality camping experiences without putting unnecessary financial strain on families or group funds.
Outdoor adventure is at the very heart of Scouting. Thanks to the support of The RDC Foundation, our young people are ready to pitch up, sleep under the stars and make memories that will last a lifetime.
